The Boxster is the embodiment of a simple yet enormously effective sports car concept. A concept built around a two-seater configuration with a six-cylinder boxer engine at its heart. It's a format that sets the Boxster apart from all other cars on the road today. Makes it special. An out-and-out Roadster in its purest form. Add the racing heritage inherent in every Porsche, and you have a car that is truly unique. A powerful reinterpretation of the original Roadster concept. Dedicated to the future of automotive engineering, and a direct descendent of the legendary 550 Spyder of the 1950s.

The 2.7-litre Boxster engine develops 162 kW (220 bhp) of power at 6,400 rpm, with maximum torque of 260 Nm available from as low as 4,750 rpm. As well as being extremely flexible to drive, the flat-six Boxster unit offers an eager throttle response and optimised cylinder charging, as well as ultra-smooth running characteristics. Driven through a five-speed manual gearbox, the Boxster takes just 6.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h, levelling out at a top speed of 250 km/h. In short: more than enough power for all road situations.

The Boxster chassis features MacPherson strut suspension with telescopic dampers and coil springs front and rear, while wheel position is controlled by means of transverse links. Strict use of lightweight materials helps minimise weight, particularly the unsprung masses. Combined with the midengined layout, the suspension is configured to minimise roll and pitch under cornering, braking and acceleration. Mid-corner handling is exemplary, even when exploiting the car's performance to the full. Straight-line stability is also first rate, as on all Porsche models.

The hood comes complete with a sound-insulating rooflining and can open and close in approximately 12 seconds - that's faster than some roadsters take to get from 0 to 100 km/h.

Step inside, and you'll discover a cockpit that's elegantly sculpted around you, the driver. All instruments and controls are within easy reach of the standard three-spoke sports steering wheel, and arranged by importance and frequency of use. As well as making for a more intuitive driving experience, the cockpit is designed for maximum occupant comfort. Because with a car this enjoyable and rewarding to drive, you may be there for some time..    Comments  [E-mail this to friend(EMF)]
